Let’s Make Theatre!

Januray 11, 2021. Monday 17.00

On the January 11 round of the Let’s Make Theatre! series by the Hungarian Theatre Society we will once again discuss the application for theater directorship. This time, Tibor Csizmadia’s guests are Johanna Bodor and László Harsányi Sulyom.

The first six rounds of the “university of theatre management” the directorship was put in historic context beginning from the 70s via case studies from Budapest and the countryside either, with the inclusion of political aspects of culture. On these events the guests of Tibor Csizmadia were experienced, former or current theatre leaders. As regards application for theatre directorships, in December 2020 two guests – who in the past couple of months had applied but did not and could not get into the positions – were invited to share their experiences.

The guests in January, Johanna Bodor and László Harsányi Sulyom applied unsuccessfully with their respective teams for the directorships of the National Theatre of Pécs and the Sándor Weöres Theatre in Szombathely. With what ambitions did they start their applications? Did they expect that political considerations are going to decide about appointments, instead of professionalism and that the national politics are going to hack local political will? What do they think about this situation? How did these events affect them? Tibor Csizmadia is going to discuss these with them.

The event that is broadcasted on the Facebook site of Papageno takes place according to public health restrictions, hence audience will not attend it. Afterwards, the event will be available wholly on the YouTube channel of the Hungarian Theatre Society.

The round table discussion is organized according to the public health restrictions in force. The event is broadcasted live on the website of Papageno.
