Portrait photographs of artists show the face, clothing, studio or apartment details, personal belongings of the artists and also reveal personality and something about the time. The earliest photo of Csaba Kertész’s astonishing collection presents the painter Gyula Aggházy posing at an event organized for Mihály Munkácsy in 1883. The photo was taken by Ede Ellinger, one of the most significant photographer of his age.
The most important photos of the fine art collection were taken by István Tóth, who was elected the photographer of the century in New York.
The first pieces of the collection of composer portraits – together with photos taken at concerts – were taken in the 19h century and its most significant part is the photos by Edit Molnár taken in the 1960s and 70s, when the best known musicians of the world performed at the Academy of Music in Budapest.
