Poems smuggled of prison, samizdat books the size of a hummingbird, clandestinely distributed video tapes with „western” films, university samizdats, punk magazines, communes, apartment theaters and secret police files – the exhibition Risk Factors presents documents and artefacts from the cultural opposition under communism which represent freedom, solidarity and opportunities for individual and collective forms of opposition.
The exhibition is based on archives and collections from the former Soviet Block – some of which have been made known to the public, some less so or not at all -, focusing on their origins, aims, political and social context.
The exhibition is based on the international research project entitled COURAGE Cultural Opposition: Understanding the Cultural Heritage of Dissent in the Former Socialist Countries.
The COURAGE three-year international research program (2016-2019) is sposored by Horizon 2020, the European Union’s Framework Program for Research and Innovation, under Grant Contract No. 692919.
