The book presents, through a series of examples, the current state of sacred architecture. The First World War marked the beginning of a coherent era in which architecture, and especially sacred architecture, has moved away from the traditional tools and styles of historical eras, resulting in a decidedly new language. In many cases, this language associated with modernity connects works from the first half of the 20th century with more recent works even more closely than chronological proximity could.
